We've made some small improvements to our constitution.
We've made some small improvements to our constitution to make it reflect how we currently work through things at SRUCSA. It's certainty a case of evolution rather than revolution, but will make the constitution more relevant and more useful. To save you reading both the old and new one and comparing side by side, here is a summary of all the changes.
- Removed reference to NUS Cards, as they are no longer distributed by SRUCSA.
- Changed "Black Students' Liberation Officer" to "Liberation Officer/BAME" to reflect the updated and clearer name.
- Updated "Students' Association Development Officer" to "Students' Association Development Lead" to match the new job title.
- Adjusted officers' starting month to June, aligning with the introduction of a handover month.
- Added clarification that only full SRUCSA members can run for election positions, addressing complexities in course delivery (e.g., SRUC-delivered but non-matriculated students).
- Removed the rule preventing candidates from using private spaces for promotion, as it was impractical to enforce.
- Renamed "Campus Councils" to "Student Panel" in line with the name change from a few years ago.
- Removed elected roles from Student Panels, as these positions were never filled.
- Transferred some election duties to the Deputy Returning Officer, as the Returning Officer is typically provided by NUS.
- Removed the responsibility of Student Panels to hold Co-Presidents accountable, as Co-Presidents chair these groups.
- Specified one Class Rep per 20 students to ensure better representation in larger classes.
- Clarified that club and society committee roles cannot be filled by students who have opted out of SRUCSA membership or are 'affiliate members,' ensuring societies remain SRUC student-run.
- Allowed for sports societies that don't have enough members for full teams, to accommodate small societies, interest groups, or SRUC students training or playing with other groups.
- Removed the requirement for societies to provide yearly budgets or report monthly to Student Panels, instead introducing the need to track financial transactions separately to reduce administrative burden.
- Removed the requirement for societies to maintain a bank account, as smaller societies often do not need one.
- Added that societies can be closed if uncontactable, allowing closure when all committee members have left.
- Removed references to funding being provided directly to Student Panels, as this was never implemented.
