Big changes are happening at SRUCSA! We’ve reimagined how our Co-President roles work, moving from faculty-based positions to responsibility-based ones. This new structure is all about making SRUCSA more focused, inclusive, and effective at representing students and supporting staff across SRUC. Read on to find out what’s changing, why it’s better, and how you can get involved!
SRUCSA has moved from faculty-based roles to a new responsibility-based model, designed to make things simpler and work better for everyone. This change shows how we’re improving representation, collaboration, and inclusivity across SRUC.
SRUC is transitioning from a geographical-based split (faculties) to a subject-based split. As a result, it no longer made sense for SRUCSA Co-President roles to mirror this structure. We saw this as an opportunity to evolve and address some challenges of the old system, like confusion over what the roles actually involved. By shifting to responsibility-based roles, each officer now has a clear focus and accountability, better aligning with SRUCSA’s mission to empower and represent all students effectively.
So what are the new roles?
The three new Co-President roles focus on specific areas to ensure progress on key priorities. The Co-President of Engagement and Advocacy leads on governance and elections, amplifying the student voice at SRUC and nationally. The Co-President of Welfare and Community drives inclusivity, wellbeing, and community-building through clubs, societies, and campaigns. The Co-President of Education and Quality focuses on academic representation, ensuring student feedback shapes learning and teaching improvements.
Why is this better?
We believe these changes will allow officers to offer more focused support and representation to SRUC and its students, addressing areas that matter most to the student experience. The new structure enables officers to specialise and develop expertise, creating a bigger impact on SRUCSA’s goals. It also strengthens collaboration with SRUC, making it clearer who to contact for a chat.
What Does This Mean for You?
Students can rely on SRUCSA to better represent their needs in governance, wellbeing, and academic quality. With each Co-President focusing on specific areas, it will be easier to know who to approach for support. Students will also see more opportunities to engage in student-led initiatives and activities. For staff, the new structure ensures clearer communication and collaboration through well-defined roles. This alignment with SRUC’s priorities and also creates more opportunities for staff to work alongside SRUCSA on shared goals.
